Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Israel is a threat to regional stability because of its nuclear arsenal, Al Jazeera reported on Wednesday.

Erdogan, who made the comments during a visit to South Africa, also said that "Israel practices state terrorism."

Israel maintains a policy of ambiguity regarding its nuclear weapons.

Relations between Ankara and Jerusalem have become strained since Israel refused to apologize for killing nine Turkish activists aboard the Gaza-bound ship the Mavi Marmara in 2010.
