The family of the Jordanian pilot captured by Islamic State made a last appeal to the government to help rescue Muath al-Kasaesbeh, whose plane was shot down on December 24 while flying over Syria. His father, Safi Yousef al-Kaseasbeh, appealed personally to Jordan's King Abdullah, telling him 'You sent my son to Syria and you must bring him back from there.' A response from King Abdullah was not reported. On January 27, IS gave a final ultimatum, threatening to kill both al-Kasaesbeh and Japanese Kenji Goto if their ransom demands were not met.
