A 17-year-old Palestinian girl was arrested by Border Police soldiers at  a checkpoint near the Tomb of Patriarchs in the West Bank carrying a large kitchen knife in her bag.

The soldiers were conducting a routine search in the suspect's bag when they found the knife, which she had presumably been carrying with the intention of assaulting security personnel or visitors to the holy site. The suspect, who is a resident of one of the nearby villages close to Hebron, resisted arrest but was eventually detained for interrogation.

Border Police assess that the suspect's behavior, attempt to resist arrest as well as the large knife she was carrying are all indicators that she wanted to carry out a stabbing attack, which they consider successfully thwarted.
