Finance Minister Steinitz won't resign over lack of VAT on fruit

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said he had no intention of resigning following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's decision to cancel the plan to impose VAT on fruit and vegetables, Israel Radio reported Monday night. Sources close to the finance minister said he was dismayed that a "historical wrong," as he called the lack of VAT on agricultural produce, would not be corrected, and added that the funds that would have been gained through taxing fruit and vegetables would be found by other means.
