Former Knesset Speaker and Likud MK Dov Shilansky passed away at age 86 on Thursday morning, Israel Radio reported. He will be buried in Tel Aviv on Friday
Shilansky was born in Lithuania, and fought in the Šiauliai Ghetto Underground during the Holocaust. He fought in the 1948 War of Independence, and was jailed attempting to bomb an Israeli Foreign Ministry building in protest of the reparations agreement between Israel and Germany.
Shilansky, a lawyer, was a Likud MK in the ninth-13th Knessets, and was Knesset Speaker from 1988-1992.
