BERLIN - The United States and Russia are making progress in discussions about a ceasefire agreement for Syria, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Friday, and added he hoped remaining differences could be worked out in the coming days.

Steinmeier, speaking to a conference sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, said the agreement under discussion would halt fighting in Syria for 7-10 days. He said the two sides had made progress and there were two to three issues yet to resolve.
