Haifa to name street after Israeli-Arab communist politico

The Haifa Municipality officially announced on Tuesday that it was naming a street after former Knesset member Tawfik Toubi, who died in 2011 at the age of 88.
Toubi, a Haifa resident, was an Israeli Arab communist politician. He was one of the founders of the Israeli Communist Party and was elected as a party representative to the first Knesset in 1949. He served in the Knesset for 41 years, from 1949 until 1990.
Toubi was born to a Christian Arab family in Haifa in 1922, and was educated at a Christian school in Jerusalem.
