Hamas claimed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's relatively poor performance in Tuesday's Knesset election was due to the "Palestinian victory over Israel" during November's Operation Pillar of Defense.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, was quoted by the Bethlehem-based Ma'an News Agency as saying that the Israeli Knesset election was a competition between parties that would ignore Palestinian rights.

He added that Israel's leading parties would all continue aggression against the Palestinian people.
