High Court cancels petition against incoming IDF chief rabbi

The High Court of Justice cancelled the petition against Rabbi Col. Eyal Karim which had threatened to block his assumption of the role, paving the way for him to take up his new role.

Three Meretz MKs petitioned the High Court against Karim’s appointment due to contentious rulings in Jewish law he made regarding female captives in war, homosexuals and other issues.

The court stated on Monday that the clarifications made by Karim in response to the petition were satisfactory, although “better late than never,” and that the petition would not be cancelled. Karim is expected to take up his new role at a formal ceremony scheduled for this Thursday. Jeremy Sharon
