Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton announced Saturday morning that she has chosen US Senator Timothy Michael "Tim" Kaine (D-VA) as her vice presidential running mate in the 2016 election.

According to Jewish news publication The Forward, Kaine is a centrist Democrat with pro-Israel credentials, having visited the Jewish state on multiple occasions and supported funding for the Iron Dome missile defense system.

The publication added, however, that Kaine was an early supporter of the Iran nuclear deal and chose not to attend a speech given by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before congress last year.
