A 53-year-old Hod Hasharon man who allegedly locked his mentally ill son in his room for a decade was indicted at the Kfar Saba Magistrate's Court on Thursday. The shocking case of neglect emerged in December 2008, when the 26-year-old was found in the home with no clothes, wallowing in his own waste. The father, who received sole custody of the son more than ten years ago, told police that he had tried to take care of his son and clean the family home, but did not manage to do so successfully because his son's medical and mental situation deteriorated continuously. The young man, who suffers from a mental illness, was hospitalized in Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba after he was discovered by the welfare authorities in December, and is currently being treated at a psychiatric hospital.
