Human error caused the crash of an Israel Air Force training jet that took the lives of two pilots, according to results of an investigation announced Wednesday. In the October 2008 incident, the aircraft from the IAF's flight school crashed over Nachal Habashor in the Negev while in training at altitude, killing veteran IAF pilot Cpt. (res.) Matan Asa, 24 and his student, Pvt. Ilan Carmi, 19. The investigation, ordered by IAF commander Maj.-Gen. Ido Nehushtan, found that there had been no technical malfunction. The investigation concluded that the training flight was carried out according to proper procedures, under normal weather conditions, and that the crew was qualified for the drill.
