The Israel Defense Forces announced on Friday that Oron Shaul, the soldier who went missing after the armored personnel carrier he and his comrades were traveling in was hit by an anti-tank missile near the Gaza border last week, was killed in action.

Hamas had claimed that it had taken the soldier alive, but Israeli officials are now saying that this was merely psychological warfare. The Shaul family has been informed of the decision.
