IDF soldiers who secured civilian employees carrying out work on the security fence separating Israel from northern Gaza heard gunshots coming from inside the Strip on Wednesday morning.

The soldiers evacuated the employees, and deployed a smoke screen to ensure their safety. The IDF did not fire any ammunition during the incident.

Army sources said the shots were likely fired in the course of "an internal incident" inside Gaza.
