IFCJ donates $5m. in heating bills for elderly

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) announced this week that it would donate more than $5 million towards heating bills for the elderly people in Israel as part of its “Warm Winter for the Elderly” initiative.

Working together with the Israeli Electric Corp., the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Infrastructure, the IFCJ will pay the heating bills for some 134,000 elderly people in Israel.

According to IFCJ President and Founder Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, this is the first time a philanthropic organization will directly transfer its donation through the Electric Corp., which will in turn deduct the sum from each eligible person’s bill. This method was chosen in order to preserve the dignity of recipients, and to ensure that the donations reach recipients as quickly and efficiently as possible, he said.

This is the fourth year in a row for IFCJ’s "Warm Winter for the Elderly" program. Recipients of the program are those deemed eligible according to National Insurance Institute data.
