Justice Menachem Elon passed away overnight Tuesday in Jerusalem at age 90.

Elon served on the Supreme Court between 1977 and 1993, and was its deputy president from 1988 to 1993.

Elon nearly became president of Israel in 1983, losing in a close vote to Chaim Herzog (61-57.)
