Katz: All buses must now carry fire extinguishers

Transportation Minister Israel Katz announced Monday that fire extinguishing systems were required on all buses, following reports of accidental fires on multiple vehicles. Fire detection mechanisms will be installed in both the engine compartments and the batteries of the buses, the Transportation Ministry said.

As part of the new safety regulation, Katz has tightened supervision on bus maintenance, and all bus companies will need to ensure that their buses pass a series of monthly tests in areas like fuel leakage, braking systems and tire condition, the office said.
