Katz: Israel, US must reach joint understanding on Syria, Iran

May 7, 2017 16:53

Transportation and Intelligence Minister Israel Katz proposed on Sunday that the governments in Jerusalem and Washington reach a five-pointed understanding on the issue of the Syrian civil war and the implications it has on Israel's security.

Among the points Katz said the understanding should outline are US recognition of Israeli sovereignty in the Golan Heights, joint opposition to a permanent Iranian military presence in Syria and Lebanon, further sanctions against Iran until it stops supporting regional terror organizations along with enhancing paralyzing sanctions on Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah.

"In view of this threat the United States and Israel should reach understandings regarding Syria and the region," he said at the Jerusalem Post Annual Conference in New York.
