Lapid blasts Netanyahu for perpetuating cycle of poverty

Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid slammed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday for perpetuating the cycle of poverty which has plagued the weakest layers of Israeli society.

Speaking to students in Rehovot, the former finance minister echoed comments he's made many a time on the campaign trail, saying Yesh Atid was the only party to fight against the prime minister's corruption.

"Netanyahu has prevented 190,000 senior citizens from escaping the cycle of poverty," Lapid told students, adding that hundreds of thousands of children were going to bed hungry. An "appropriate" response to this, Lapid said, would have been to pass a budget before dissolving the Knesset and calling elections, even if Netanyahu "did not want to sit in the same government with me."

Likud's corruption, which according to Lapid has become the party's "course of action," needed to be stopped.
