Meretz chairwoman MK Zehava Gal-On was schedule to meet on Wednesday evening in Ramallah with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

"Only a political settlement that would strengthen moderate Palestinian elements, will bring long-term peace and hope to residents of the South and for the two sides,"  Gal-On said in a statement ahead of the meeting.

Last week, opposition leader Isaac Herzog and Abbas convened in the first meeting between a senior Israeli official and the PA leader since the 50-day Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.
