Liberman instructs IDF to reopen Gaza's Erez Crossing

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman instructed the IDF to reopen Gaza’s Erez crossing as of Monday morning, following consultation meetings with the IDF, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
The Defense Ministry spokesperson cited the “security calm that has been maintained over the past week and the significant drop in [violent] incidents” as the reason for the crossing’s reopening.
Israel closed the crossing into Gaza last Sunday in response to that weekend’s violent border riots, in what Liberman said was an attempt to create a direct link between economic benefits for Gaza and security in Israel.
Liberman’s decision on Sunday to reopen the crossing came despite additional violent riots on the Gaza border on Friday.
