Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman on Thursday likened Israel’s campaign against Hamas to the British effort to push back Nazi Germany during World War II.

Liberman made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with his British counterpart, Philip Hammond.

“Israel expects the British to display a special understanding for its position,” Liberman told Hammond. “In one of the most difficult and glorious chapters in Britain’s history, when London was bombarded during the Second World War, we learned from Winston Churchill that even if the price is blood, sweat, and tears, a nation that wishes to survive must fight for its freedom.”
