According to police, a Jerusalem man in his 20s stabbed his girlfriend to death at her home after she ended their relationship, and then attempted to take his own life by ingesting poison.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the murder occurred shortly after midnight on Friday.

“He showed up at his girlfriend’s home to confront her when she said she wanted to end their relationship and stabbed her to death after a heated argument,” said Rosenfeld on Saturday. “He then fled the scene after drinking a poisonous fluid in a suicide attempt after the murder.”

Rosenfeld said a friend of the victim heard her screaming and alerted police when she found her dying inside her home.

The man was found shortly thereafter hiding in a nearby area with the murder weapon in hand. Rosenfeld said he was then taken to an area hospital in serious condition, where he will be charged with her murder.
