Israeli efforts thwarted a Palestinian attempt to oust the Jewish state out of FIFA, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday.

The premier made the remarks following the announcement that the Palestinian Football Association had dropped its proposal to suspend Israel from soccer's world governing body.

"This Palestinian provocation joins the unilateral measures taken by the Palestinians through other international institutions," Netanyahu said in a statement. "As long as they are taking these step, they only distance peace instead of bring it closer."
