Report: Netanyahu urged Kerry to accept Russian offer on Syria chemical arms

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has urged US Secretary of State John Kerry to accept Russia's offer that the Assad regime would destroy its chemical arsenal to avert an American military assault, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

According to American and Middle Eastern sources, Netanyahu called Kerry on September 11, and told the secretary of state he believed Russia was not bluffing that a deal was possible. Israel shares American concerns that strikes could strengthen rebels linked with al-Qaida and allow them to seize the Syrian regime's chemical weapons, Netanyahu told Kerry.
