New German ambassador to Isrel takes up post by remembering the Holocaust

New German ambassador Clemens von Goetze began working in his new position in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, calling it a “great honor” to represent his country in Israel.
He started his his tenure by issuing a statement referencing the “unthinkable crimes of the Germans under the Nazis,” and saying “we must not and will never forget the past.”
Von Goetze served most recently in the German foreign Ministry as Director General for Africa, Asia, Latin America, Near and Middle East. He replaces Andreas Michaelis who served here for the last four years.
