The US State Department announced on Tuesday that it was designating the Mujahidin Shura Council in the Environs of Jerusalem (MSC) – an umbrella organization made up of Gaza-based jihadist terrorist groups – as a foreign terrorist organization.

The group has claimed responsibility for several attacks against Israel, including an August 2013 rocket attack targeting the port city of Eilat and another attack against Gaza frontier town Sderot on March 21, 2013.

The group also backs the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
