A 30-year-old man was killed on Wednesday in a car explosion on Route 2, Israel’s coastal highway, by Kibbutz Ga’ash, in what police described as a criminal incident.
Two other passengers were wounded, one moderately and one lightly. Paramedics treated them at the scene before evacuating them to a hospital.
Police said an initial investigation found that an explosive device placed in the car, a Skoda, was the cause of the incident and that they would to continue to investigate the circumstances. The car was traveling from south to north, the explosion occurred at the point where Roads 20 and 2 merge.
The Magen David Adom spokesman said: “This appeared to be an explosion that occurred while the car was traveling. The car stopped after dozens of meters.”
A paramedic who arrived at the scene in a Magen David Adom emergency motorcycle said: “When we arrived, we saw a man of about 30 trapped inside the car, unconscious, with severe multi-system organ failure. He had no pulse and was not breathing. We performed medical tests and soon we had to determine his death. Two other men, aged 30, were walking outside the car, suffering from injuries and burns. We gave them first aid and evacuated them to the hospital when one of them was in light condition and the other in moderate condition.”This is the second incident of this kind this week.
On Sunday night, two men in their 30’s, prominent figures in the underworld, were killed in a car explosion in southern Tel Aviv’s Hatikva neighborhood.
