Report: UK ambassador urges neutral Beirut policy on Syria

Britain's Ambassador to Lebanon urged the government in Beirut to remain neutral toward the conflict in Syria in order to uphold national interests, Lebanese The Daily Star early Saturday cited Tom Fletcher as saying.
Fletcher was reported as expressing concern over the Lebanese policy on the unrest in neighboring Syria in light of increasing involvement of Hezbollah militants in the fighting.
“I raised our concerns about the role of Lebanese fighters in Syria. It is of great sadness that Iran is now sending sons of Lebanon to die for [Syrian President Bashar] Assad,” he was quoted as saying after a meeting with caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
