Settler leader praises Sharon, labels Gaza disengagement 'mistake'

Settler council official Dani Dayan commemorated on Sunday former prime minister Ariel Sharon, praising the late 11th premier's leadership and various military efforts while labeling as a "mistake" his unilateral disengagement plan from Gaza.

"Ariel Sharon was Israel's greatest warrior since the Macabees. He saved Israel by his virtuous crossing of the Suez Canal. He established thriving communities across our ancestral homeland, changing its landscape forever," said Chief Foreign Envoy and former director of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip (Yesha).

"He defeated Palestinian terror, against all odds. Today, I prefer to stop the memories there, and not deal with the terrible mistake known as the Gaza disengagement," Dayan said in a statement.
