Turkish police fire water cannon on protesters in southeast

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey= - Turkish police fired water cannon and tear gas on Friday to break up a crowd of several thousand people protesting in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir against security operations targeting Kurdish militants, witnesses said.
People scattered into side streets as the intervention began, coinciding with a news conference in the city where pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-leader Selahattin Demirtas had called for "resistance" against the operations.
