US President Donald Trump said on Friday he was "not satisfied" with Iran's latest proposal for an end to hostilities, adding that negotiations are currently being conducted over the phone.

Speaking to the media outside the White House, Trump said that Iran wants to make a deal "because they have no military left."

"They are having tremendous discord in getting along in Iran; their leadership is really disjointed, and there are three, maybe four groups. They all want to make a deal, but they are all very messed up," he told reporters.

"They're not able to get along with each other as leaders," said Trump. "They don't know who the leader is."

"Their military's been defeated. If we left right now, it would take them 20 years to build back that country, but we're not satisfied at this moment," he added.

Trump also said that he has "great respect" for Pakistan, but lacked faith in their ability to mediate a deal with Iran, saying he is "unsure they will ever get there."

"...we're doing everything in terms of the negotiation telephonically," Trump pointed out.

When asked by a reporter if he was considering new strikes on Iran, the President responded, "Why would I tell you that?"

Trump added that he believes his upcoming visit to China will be "an amazing event" and that he will visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Additionally, he disregarded news that US missile stockpiles were running low due to the war in Iran, saying it wasn't something that worried him.

White House refuses to comment on negotiations

Earlier on Friday, the White House Spokeswoman Anna Kelly refused to comment on the negotiations with Iran when asked by The Jerusalem Post.

"We do not detail private diplomatic conversations. President Trump has been clear that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, and negotiations continue to ensure the short- and long-term national security of the United States,” she told the Post.

Iran sent its latest proposal for negotiations with the United States to Pakistani mediators on Thursday, state news agency IRNA reported on Friday.
