The United Nations on Thursday said that both Israel and Hamas have given indications that they want to reduce tensions in and around the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.

"We are hearing a clear desire from all concerned to de-escalate the situation and respect calm and I appeal for an end to acts of violence," UN special envoy to the Middle East Robert Serry said in a statement.

Serry added that the UN is trying to reduce tensions in the region as well.
