Sharon Gal, the television newscaster who entered politics and earned a Knesset seat representing Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu faction, is quitting parliament and returning to journalism. The freshman lawmaker made the announcement on Wednesday, ending a brief political career. 'Today I announce my resignation from the Knesset,' Gal said in a statement. 'As a journalist with an agenda, I was given the opportunity to advance that agenda before the recent elections as a member of Yisrael Beytenu.' 'I was happy for the opportunity, and I took advantage of it as best as I could during my tenure as an MK,' Gal said. 'Nonetheless, I feel that in my current situation, as an MK in the opposition, it is as a journalist that I will be able to bring my abilities to the fore in the best way possible.' 'Once I reached this conclusion, I decided to take this step now,' he said.
