The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a Tel Aviv District Court ruling according to which the cost of sending children to day care centers would be tax deductible for working women, rejecting the Tax Authority's appeal.
In April 2008, Tel Aviv District Court Judge Magen Altuvia ruled that Vered Peri, a self-employed lawyer, would receive tax deductions equivalent to two-thirds of the cost of the day-care centers to which she sent her children.
The Tax Authority said that were the ruling implemented, it would cost the state NIS 2 billion per year.
