The voter turnout in the Jerusalem municipal elections stood at seven percent by 1 p.m., while 10% had cast their ballots in Tel Aviv. Both figures mark a higher voter turnout than at the same stage last time around.
Meanwhile, Arabs held a commercial strike in several east Jerusalem neighborhoods in protest of the elections in the capital and police detained two young Arabs for allegedly threatening business owners to keep their stores shut.
Also, the camp of Jerusalem mayoral candidate Nir Barkat claimed that in several polling stations, voting slips bearing his name mysteriously went missing.
Also Tuesday, in Dimona, a branch of the NGO, Yadid, was vandalized twice, apparently in an election-related feud. A complaint was filed with police.
Kadima leader and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni voted near her home in Ramat Hahayal.
Speaking to reporters, Livni said, the local elections "give a lot of energy to people who believe in Kadima and also to the activists to continue marching on to electing a good list within Kadima and then toward victory in the general elections.
