Israel Always: Biased Liberal Media Misrepresents Israel

The liberal US national media is sowing massive misinformation, untruths and hatred toward Israel on a daily basis.

Often I am asked the question, "What's going on in Israel?" Yet if all these questioners listened regularly to my weekly, hour-long "Front Page Jerusalem" radio program, which is broadcast on radio stations around the world and on the Internet, they would have a pretty good idea of what is going on in Israel. However, many Christians do not or cannot listen, nor do they have the time or opportunity to keep up with Israel through other sources of reliable information. Sadly, most Christians only hear news about Israel through the mainstream national TV and print media - which is permeated with a liberal, pro-Arab, anti-Israel bias. You can check it out with any current news article about Gaza. The story pattern much-too-often leads with the terrible deeds and damage the Israelis have reporttedly inflicted on the Palestinians. You would have to reach the third or four paragraph before you read that frequently, the Israelis were acting in self-defense, often in response to rocket or terror attacks. In this way, the liberal US national media is sowing massive misinformation, untruths and hatred toward Israel on a daily basis. Israel is always the bad guy and the bully, while the so-called poor Arabs are the beleaguered, helpless little guys who need the world's sympathy and support. It's a twisted, reversed depiction of the biblical story of David and Goliath. In this context, it has not been too surprising to read recently about another outrageous declaration coming out of the Presbyterian Church/USA. Let me quote a portion of its official assessment of the situation in Israel and the Gaza territory: "The recent events in the Gaza Strip are yet another proof that the only solution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is for Israel to end its illegal, violence-breeding occupation of Palestine. This is deliberate cruel collective punishment and indiscriminate terrorization of an entire population - young and old, men, women and children. It is blatant savagery. With such reckless behavior, Israel is hurling the whole region into chaos." This is a biased, even twisted, perspective obviously learned from the mainstream media. All these drastic terms and concepts are undeservedly and untruthfully attributed to Israel - "illegal, occupation, violence, terrorization, savagery, reckless behavior, and chaos." We conservative Christians are stunned by this condemnation of Israel by some who are supposed to be fellow Christians. We wonder what Bible these people are reading, or how they could so blindly ignore what the Bible so clearly tells us about Israel and the Arabs. The Bible declares that the God of Israel has re-gathered the Jewish people from the four corners of the world, brought them back to their ancient homeland and re-established their ancient nation. God has fulfilled his promises to preserve and to prosper this restored nation. And He has also declared that this disputed land belongs to the Jewish people as an "everlasting possession." Of course, this means that the Jews are not the "illegal occupiers." All it takes is a fair mind to understand that if the Arabs would stop their aggression and terrorism, there would be no more conflict; but if the Jews stopped responding in self defense, there soon would be no Israel. Yet there is an encouraging update to the sad Presbyterian/USA story. The denomination's call for companies to boycott Israel has caused a great uprising among its own congregants, who obviously have a better grasp of biblical truth concerning Israel than do their leaders. Add to this the well-established fact that those of us who are identified as conservative or evangelical Christians are strongly opposed to such anti-Israel and anti-Jewish bias. We consider ourselves strong, loyal, and faithful supporters of Israel and the Jewish people's rights to ownership of their own God-given homeland. We would like all Israelis to understand that when it comes to Israel, we are profoundly different from those Christians who are identified as liberal. Now back to Gaza, to which the Presbyterian/USA declaration was referring: We well remember when then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon gave that territory to the Palestinian Arabs in an incredible gesture of goodwill. When Israel withdrew all the Jewish people from Gaza, they left the Arabs a flourishing economy with millions of dollars worth of agricultural, commercial and industrial businesses that would have provided jobs and income for thousands. But what did the Arabs do? Instead of utilizing all that freely given economic opportunity, they blatantly destroyed most of the businesses and industry the Jews left behind. And now they try to blame Israel and the Jews for poverty in their territory. Ironically, Israel still gets vilified by most of the world and, sadly, even from some professing Christians. The Presbyterian/USA declaration, however, confirms what our Bible has long taught us - that hatred exists in this world for the Jewish people and Israel, primarily because God has told us they are His special and chosen people.
