An Israeli father, who was living in Texas, murdered his nine-year-old daughter on Monday before committing suicide, local media reported.

The man, 42, shot shot his daughter in an apparent homicide, then turned the gun on himself.

According to court records, the man was in the middle of a divorce and ensuing custody battle over his daughter. He was set to appear before the court regarding custody status in January, according to KXAN News.

The police discovered the bodies while doing a routine welfare check.
