Gadgets: Corner-friendly speakers

Control NOW speakers are made to fit into any environment.

For a long time, JBL has been the favorite manufacturer of live audio systems among leading recording artists and sound engineers around the world. Their latest release, Control NOW speakers are made to fit into any environment, and feature an unusual quarter-round shape that provides an array of installation possibilities. The idea behind the speakers' curved shape is that it enables them to fit into any 90-degree angle spot, while they can also be fitted together for a 180-degree, or even 270-degree, on-wall installation. They can be corner-mounted between a ceiling and wall or between two walls, or be placed either horizontally or vertically on a shelf. Delivering evenly distributed sound with minimal distortion at any volume level even in a less-than-optimal acoustic room, the JBL Control NOW speakers are a high-style, high performance choice. From an acoustic perspective, this is basically quite smart as lower frequency sounds tend to accumulate and blur where walls meet, but the JBL Control NOW system force the sound in the opposite direction. The result is a quality crystal-clear sound. Under the hood, each speaker is complemented by dual 4-inch woofers, which are computer-designed to deliver high output with minimal distortion, as well as a tweeter capable of pumping out over 100 decibels of sound. Each speaker weighs 3 kg., and is 25 cm. tall with a casing made from a high-strength composite material for maximum sonic clarity and durability. One particularly cool aspect of the design is that several can be joined together back to back to create a half- or full-circle speaker, which also looks very exclusive especially if you hang them from the ceiling using an optional pole-mount bracket and standard ceiling-fan hardware. When combined in two, three or four speaker arrays, the Control NOW can also be configured to either single-channel or single-point stereo use to optimize the acoustics of the room, and they're certainly worth considering for the audio environment in your home. The speakers are sold individually for NIS 1,100 each, and if you don't mind paying an extra NIS 200, the Control Now line also comes in a weatherproof version, in case you want to mount them outside. ofer@jpost.com
