5 die in India while trying to dismantle shell

Police said on Saturday that at least five scrap collectors were killed in northern India after an army shell exploded as they tried to salvage metal from it. Senior police official A.P. Phardwaj said that the explosion also injured eight others. It occurred in a slum in Meerut, about 45 miles (70 kilometers) northeast of New Delhi. Phardwaj said that the scrap workers found the shell at a nearby army camp and took it home to dismantle it for the metal. He said that the shell apparently exploded after they hit it repeatedly.
