British soldier dies in southern Afghanistan

A rocket attack killed a British soldier during a military operation in southern Afghanistan, Britain's Ministry of Defense said Saturday. The soldier was a communications specialist supporting the operation against Taliban forces in Gereshk Valley in Helmand Province when he died in the attack on Friday, the ministry said in a statement. It occurred in a compound between Heyderabad and Mirmandab, and the victim's identity was being withheld pending notification of his relatives. The death brought to 67 the number of British soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan since November 2001.
