Chavez not alarmed by oil price slide

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he was not alarmed by the falling price of oil, his country's top export. He said that oil prices were "searching for their level after a period of great volatility," and should settle between $90 and $100 a barrel. As recently as June, Chavez predicted oil prices would reach $200 a barrel. Venezuela, a member of OPEC, is the United States' fourth largest oil supplier. Chavez said OPEC had no current plans to cut output to offset sinking prices. Crude has fallen more than 37 percent since reaching a record $147 a barrel on July 11. It closed at $91.15 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday.
