Drug traffickers kill 8 Iranian security forces

Drug traffickers killed at least 8 Iranian security forces and injured two others in armed clashes in southeastern Iran, state-run television reported Sunday. The broadcast said the clashes took place late Saturday in Kenar Naei, a region in southeastern Iran. Police operations were underway to clean the area from the drug traffickers, the TV said. It was not yet clear whether any of the drug traffickers were killed in the exchange of fire. Gangs of drug traffickers frequently clash with security forces in the lawless region and occasionally kidnap people.
