Ethiopia says it foiled kidnap attempt on French and other tourists

Ethiopia foiled a kidnapping attempt on a group of French and other tourists near the Eritrean border in northeastern Ethiopia, the government said. The attempt, which state media reported Wednesday night, occurred around midday and was unsuccessful, but state media said the would-be kidnappers shot at the tourists' vehicles.
