A federal jury in Miami has convicted the son of former Liberian President Charles Taylor in the first case brought under a 1994 US law allowing prosecution for torture and atrocities committed overseas.
Charles McArthur Emmanuel, also known as Charles "Chuckie" Taylor Jr., was convicted Thursday of torture and conspiracy charges after two days of jury deliberations. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
Prosecutors said the 31-year-old was involved in killings and torture in Liberia as head of an elite security unit in his father's government.
