Iraq: US soldier killed in Anbar province

An American soldier was killed "due to enemy action" in the volatile Anbar province, the US military said Sunday. The soldier, who was assigned to the 2/28 Brigade Combat Team, was killed Saturday, the military said. The soldier's name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. At least 2,476 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
