NYPD unveils boats that can detect nuclear threats

The New York Police Department has unveiled two high-tech patrol boats that can sniff out radiological or nuclear threats from miles away. The police Counterterrorism Division demonstrated the boats Friday and say they have sensors that can detect minute amounts of radiation. Police told Newsday that the crew of one of the new boats was able to pinpoint a bottle containing harmless uranium a half-mile away on a fishing boat. The boats were used in a nuclear training exercise that also involved fire, Coast Guard and Port Authority officials.
