WASHINGTON  — US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the killing of four Israelis in the West Bank was a "senseless slaughter" that will not stop the US from seeking peace in the Middle East.

Obama spoke alongside Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu after the two met privately at the White House. The US is hosting Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for a new round of Middle East peace talks.

Netanyahu applauded Obama's condemnation of the attack and said the killings were carried out by people who do not respect human life and who "trample human rights into the dust and butcher everything they oppose."

Netanyahu thanked the president for his continued fight against terror.
