Prison riot ends in Turkey

About 50 inmates ended a nearly three-hour prison riot in western Turkey late Monday morning, releasing five prison guards held hostage. Local authorities said all guards were released unharmed after negotiations with the inmates who had started fires in their cells to protest prison conditions and seek amnesty. No one was reported wounded during the uprising at Burhaniye prison in Balikesir province. The inmates started the riot during the pre-dawn meal on the last fasting day Ramadan.
