US seeks to suspend Gitmo war crimes trials

The US military is to seek an immediate 120-day halt to Guantanamo trials pending review by President Barack Obama. The army made the request in a motion filed the late Tuesday in the case of five men charged in the September 11 attacks. A military judge is expected to rule on the request at a hearing Wednesday at the US Navy base in Cuba. The two-page order said the "interests of justice" would be served by an immediate halt to the widely criticized system for prosecuting suspected terrorists.
